Visiting Princeton, Philly

(I compiled this information originally for some women who were planning an East Coast swing in conjunction with a business trip, and who wondered if I could help steer them towards the fun lesbian stuff in the region.)

Okay, on to your trip... you're visiting your grandmother in Trenton, right, but there's only one hotel in Trenton, and you probably don't want to stay there... my sense is that there's not much of a nightlife in Trenton (although of course I could be wrong).  Princeton's only about 20 minutes away, and there's a good list of Princeton-area hotels here:  http://www.triprinceton.com/contact/directions.html  (forget the directions, just scroll down to the hotel listings).

In Boston, Trenton, and Philly, you ideally want as little stuff of value in your car as possible.  You'll be safe, but tempting "goodies" in an unattended car is just not a good idea in any of those towns.

Princeton, on the other hand, is 20 minutes from Trenton, totally safe, and is exactly 47 miles from both NYC and Philly.  There's a parking lot on the Princeton University campus that's free and w/in walking distance of the train line... you could train into NYC for the day if you're feeling adventurous.  Let me know if you want deets.

If you want to take in a show while you're here, there's a great regional theater here in Princeton where I've literally never seen a bad show: http://mccarter.org/home.aspx?page_id=1

Lots of good restaurants (and a micro-brewery, if you like beer) in downtown Princeton, too, plus a great little movie theater that you can walk to from most of the restaurants:  http://www.thegardentheatre.com/

An easy place to have a terrific evening (part of why we love living here).

There's tons of lesbian nightlife in Philly, and a pretty good overview of that here:  http://www.gophila.com/Go/PressRoom/pressreleases/gay/Lots_Of_Lesbian_Nightlife_111605.aspx

The website of the gay paper in Philly is http://www.epgn.com/ if you want to poke around for more explicitly gay-themed stuff... there's a great gay bookstore in Philly called Giovanni's Room (after the book by James Baldwin), and that's probably worth a pilgrimmage, esp. if you don't have a chance to go to a gay bookstore in Boston.  That's at 12th and Pine:  http://www.giovannisroom.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp

If you're in Philly on the first Friday of the month and like art, you HAVE to go to First Friday  ....  http://www.flyawaycafe.com/philadelphia-first-fridays/ ... basically every gallery in Old City throws open their doors and stay open late... it's a great scene, and once you're "drunk" on art you could head over to http://www.ladies2000.com.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions.
